Like a quicksand

The other day while I was accompanying my mother at the workshop to fix the broken driver's seat, we had a rather interesting 'conversation' about the human facade, money, my future and other rants about our lives. I was comparing other people and how they seem to be much more stable and unburdened and well, almost perfect while there we were, stuck in a quagmire of conundrums.

"Yes, they seem perfect on the outside. But do you know of their problems? No. People put on this facade to the world to show others they are all fine and dandy when in fact their problems pile up a mountain. Everything comes with a price, your Facebook pictures tell the world how rich you are or how happy your family seems to be, but you've trouble with the law (and obviously you don't advertise it on social networks), for example. It's one way or another."

Those are some of the things that she said that made me think hard that day. My every day influences by the media have clouded my perception on the reality of how people, including me, take things for granted and more so the value of the things that we're unappreciative of. Things seem so perfect in movies and TV series, yes even when there are aliens invading the planet to end the human population wtf, but that's beside the point.

I try to be appreciative of the things I have because I know, there are people who are having it way, way worse than I am. But I tend to also think that, different circumstances call for different reactions. It's not a bad thing to dream, is it? Wishful thinking..

Insomnia

Today is the 3rd day in a row I can't get myself to fall into a slumber (well, of course I get to sleep later on...though it's after 3-4 hours of twisting and turning like yoga on my bed wtf. My mind brimming with so many thoughts and plans and ideas about the future. I've been bumming around the house for about three weeks now. I have plans, but a lack of motivation and direction makes me feel lost.

Confind

Backtrack #1

I graduated!

Well, not officially I didn't, but school's over for me /dies, and the sinister voices of working life is calling out for me. It hasn't quite dawned on me that, 'woah, this is it, you're officially going to be an adult, doing adult things like paying electric bills and drifting away from your already distant school friends and family, buying insurance wtf, enslave yourself to a lifetime of OTs and part-time jobs to pay off your education loan, et cetera. in short, you are going to die.' Sorry I'm pessimistic.

As for future plans, I have decided to give myself a year or two of break from studying. I will, eventually, pursue my undergrad degree, of course. Whenever that is.

A final showcase to exhibit our final projects, my batch, being the pioneers of The Design School at Taylor's University, was held and it was a success. Friends, family and faculty members came to lend their support and it was - as cliched as this would sound - a night to remember wtf.

That's minshen, who will be flying to UK soon and karheng who's now taking his degree in Swinburne, Australia.

We showcased our editorial works, dangling from the ceiling for people to appreciate and read, so cool, right? wtf.

With one of my favourite lecturers of all time, who is really cool tell me where can you find a lecturer with over 30 piercings and can converse with you in Cantonese while cracking unfunny English jokes that make you fall into a fit of uncontrollable laughter? TELL ME.

A GPOY haha, it's actually the premiere of a reel we did for the graduate showcase. Check it out at the end of this post! Don't laugh ok wtf.

A few minutes before the launch - those white posters you see in this picture are designer profiles, featuring the ten pioneer graduates of the night.

Oh, the concept of this showcase is Confind: Finding Within Confinement. We, as designers, work within restrictions and limitations aka the brief. Thus, we thought that this showcase, which featured our final projects and works from other terms, would very well project the idea of solving something, within walls of confinements.

Here's the awesome poster for the event.

Sister and bro-in law and joelle who came to show some support /touched.

Zany lecturers I love.

Random pic of some random guy reading my book haha! And check out the t-shirt yo! Makes my day hahahaha!

Said reel. Enjoy!

Thank you, Teddie, Min Shen, Nicholas, Rifan, Liyana, Gladys, Darul, Aqilah, Jun Yang, Kar Heng, Dennis, Mei & others.

This present

Hello, world!
I have returned to the wondrous self-gratifying activity of writing nonsense on a digital space to fulfill my needs to be heard and vent.

I feel like backtracking a little (well, actually, a few months' time) to sorta give a telltale on what I've been up to during my period of hiatus which began from another blog.

I came up with a new blog to sort of mark a new chapter in my life? And I have a feeling, well, I oughta make sure I post on a frequent basis, otherwise, I'll update my Tumblr.

Till then, have fun living life.
